You can pair up with another guys beside Alex looking for clue , his relationship point won't decrease this time :D
I have the same problem; it might be a bug because if you choose to find clues with anyone else, it resolves and the Chalet unlocks.
To get to the Alex CG, don't choose Alex to find clues with. He gets jealous but he will still remain the designated target.
